What an absolutely great day I had signing books with Kelly Sharp and all my friends at Sarah Bellums Bakery and workshop. I saw friends from the past, namely Jacky McCarthy and her husband James, and met some amazing people!!
I just got off the phone with Dr. Blake Welling of McKay Dee Hospital in Ogden UT. He is the neurosurgeon who saved my life 20 years ago yesterday. For 20 yrs. now I’ve called him on my birthday to thank him for giving me another one. He told me today how much he looks forward to it, and how happy it makes him feel. Like Dr. Bruce, another brilliant Dr. with absolutely no ego!!!
This found its way into my Inbox today and was a reminder of the greatest gift I ever got…………my TBI! 💖 ————————————————————- I was talking to a volunteer at equine therapy today and she said she had given her copy of toast to a friend whose son had a brain injury. The mom read the part about when you were trying to make toast to her son, and her son burst into tears. He said it was the first time he’d ever had a way to explain to his mom what it was really like to have a brain injury
Happy Birthday Tom McGill! Or ‘Gilligan’ as you were known to many of your friends. Your parents, family and the world for that matter, had no idea what would be coming their way for the next 18 years making your entry on Halloween. You touched many lives, one of those was mine. I know you and Greg are partying in heaven today. You never could resist a good party, possibly because you were the life of so many of them. I’ll eat a Butterfinger today in your honor! Rest In Peace 🙏😇
What a fabulous day!! I met a friend at NW EyeCare Professionals, and introduced her to Dr. Macson Lee, who would be her Behavioral / Neurological Optometrist. Both she and her husband were beside themselves with his knowledge, understanding, and how one visit made such a huge difference!! I met & had a great conversation with a wonderful man in the waiting room who left carrying a signed copy of ‘Learning to Make Toast’. He was thrilled!! Then Husband & I picked up some donations for Oregon Impact’s fundraiser, Merry & Bright that’s being held on November 30th at the Abernathy Center in Oregon City.
It was such an honor to be asked to sit with a patient of Dr. Bruce’s today. She recently was hurt in a car crash, which resulted in a TBI. Her injury devastated her, but given a copy of ‘Learning to Make Toast’ from one of Dr. Bruce’s tech’s days ago to help give her hope. Then I surprised her with a visit and what a surprise it was! She doesn’t live in Oregon and when she met the woman the book was about, she couldn’t stop crying she was so overwhelmed and appreciative. We’ll be staying in touch even when she moves back home to Alaska.
It feels so good and so right living a purpose filled life!
Later this morning I’ll be going to my Civil Tongues Toastmasters meeting. Then I’ll head over to Good Samaritan Medical Center for the 70th anniversary RIO garden party where I’ll be doing a book signing from 4:00 to 6:00.
I had a great day today with Cheryl Green presenting at Lifeline Connections in Vancouver WA. We did a training about the characteristics, awareness and living with a TBI. Kelly Sharp met us there and sold some books!
